This is an impressive tomato. But is it a better one?

Bigger fruit may look like progress until it no longer fits the buyer’s packaging, puts fewer tomatoes on a pallet, or leaves the consumer with more than they need.

Plant breeding can produce extraordinary traits, but the trait still has to make sense all the way from the greenhouse to the consumer.

Sometimes bigger is just bigger.
