High hopes

Not exactly the flowers I was hoping for.

This little cannabis plant has declared itself male. Unless I'm breeding, it's of no use to me.

But it raises a bigger question about where cannabis genetics are headed.

We've made tremendous progress breeding for potency, terpene profiles and flower quality. But for commercial growers, those traits need to come with something equally important: genetic stability, uniformity and predictable performance.

A great cultivar isn't so great if it produces exceptional flower one harvest and hermaphrodites the next.

If you could ask cannabis breeders to prioritize just one trait over the next five years, what would it be?
